The provincial government has confirmed that Albox fire station remains unmanned after its closure by the local council on January 1, CA News can reveal.

Diputación took possession of the fire station in Albox last week, to hand over to the Levante fire brigade which will be responsible for fire services throughout the Almanzora valley.

The move, while seen as the only possible immediate solution, has been criticised by opposition parties who claim the Levante brigade is already stretched to capacity and needs more staff and equipment.

The Levante brigade operates out of Turre, some 52 kilometres and a 40-minute drive away from Albox and onwards into the rest of the Almanzora area.
