Los Genoveses beach is one of most popular tourist destinations in the province

A proposal to build a 33-bedroom, four-star hotel near the famous protected Los Genoveses beach in the Cabo de Gata nature park has caused outrage, with more than 10,000 people signing an online petition against the move in just one week.

Hotel operator Torres y Gónzalez Díaz SL is behind the project to convert the “Las Chiqueras” farm into a luxury hotel, and says its plan is being misrepresented online.

The application is for a €2 million renovation of farm buildings totalling 2,376-square metres into “a modern and luxurious resort”.
