Prices are soaring after crops fail in Almería and Murcia

The UK is going without its greens, with Tesco and other supermarkets unable to supply basic vegetables

Floods and snow across Almería and Murcia have devastated greenhouses and fields of tomatoes, courgettes, peppers and lettuces.

As a result, supermarkets in the north of Europe are warning of shortages in the supply chain, causing rationing and price increases.

It has become so difficult to source courgettes in parts of the UK that a Twitter hashtag #courgettecrisis has been set-up to discuss the problem and alert people to the arrival of new stocks.

UK supermarket chain Tesco removed fresh produce such as courgettes, loose tomatoes and iceberg lettuces from its website last week.
