A one-year-old baby and the driver of a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction were killed in a head-on collision on Tuesday night in Cantoria.

The accident happened just after 10pm on the Almanzora motorway some four kilometres from the village of Fines on the Baza-bound carriageway.

The Guardia Civil said a car being driven by a 26-year-old Cantoria man collided head on with another vehicle carrying a young family as he attempted an overtaking manoeuvre.

The baby’s 31-year-old father was seriously injured, while the child’s five-year-old brother and 32-year-old mother were slightly hurt. Reports say the dead driver was not wearing a seat belt.
