Officials condemning the murder this week

A 62-year-old man is believed to have shot dead his young girlfriend in Adra before turning the gun on himself on New Year’s Eve.

The alleged killer, identified as Ángel G.C., shot 25-year-old Dima Mouaihat at the couple’s flat on San Dimas street before committing suicide. The couple had a four-year-old daughter who was unharmed in the attack.

The Guardia Civil later confirmed that the victim had not previously reported her partner to the authorities for violent behaviour and that the suspected killer did not have a criminal record.

Ms Mouaihat’s death provoked a wave of condemnation from the authorities, including Adra council, the Diputación provincial government and the Junta de Andalucía. A minute’s silence in her honour was marked by the local council on Monday (January 4), while a protest gathering to denounce gender-based violence was held later that day in Almería city.
